Gold + Wigs

BAHHH sorry I've been so absent! I'll be incredibly busy for the next week so you're just gonna have to hold in there. But here's a little sumthin sumthin to tie you over.

Fall 2011 Comme de Garรงons. They had gold glittery wigs
The day someone invents a hairspray with the same results....
There's something so cherubic about these models.
I can't get enough.

Skull + Candy (Part II)

So apparently I'm more into skulls then I realized. Looking at my artwork from the last year, 50% of them involve some kind of skeleton part! For example, the piece below I did in last spring.  It was actually a really cool process. The entire piece was made without ANY digital editing of color. I used the same gold skull over and over again and placed in in front of a white wash wall and then used different colored shirts to cover the lights (all very professionally done in my dorm room). Next, I photoshopped and swapped the different skulls into different backgrounds, mixing up the matching colors in order to emphasize the effect color and light have on an object.

kinda cool, huh?

Oh and just for kicks, here a photo of me and my younger sister Lorelei. I'm wearing a KILLER black carved-skull Noir necklace my aunt gave me. It ties with this beautiful black ribbon bow in the back.

And here's me (on the left) and my wonderful friend Zuzka whom we visited in Slovakia. I'm wearing a SUPER COOL scarf I got in Ibiza that has skulls on it. The bigger ones at the bottom are rather obvious, but I like how as the print gets smaller you have to look closely to realize that they are, in fact, skulls.

Skull + Candy

While in Mykonos, my friends and I had the grand idea to get Henna tattoos. So flipping through the various example books, I passed by my usual swirly sun or flower choice to land on a skull with flames shooting out behind it. Well, I ixnayed the flames and asked for just the skull. I was feeling adventurous. The guy took my wrist and did it in about 30 seconds without really looking at it. So while it may not classify as a work of art, exactly, I kind of love it. His name is Frank and sadly he is now fading.

bamf.

Anywho, skulls (and anything skeleton related) have recently made their way into my "I want I want I want" category. Maybe it had to do with taking an anatomy class last semester? Although you'd think doing 150 skeleton drawings per assignment would put you off them.

I mean, how can you not like skeletons. That would be like not liking you own substance of being. Literally. And self-loathing is baadddd. I'm all about the love.

The + Gossip // Beth + Ditto

Ah, Beth Ditto. One of the most eye-catching divas of our day. My first encounter with this superstar was passing through a train station in France a couple of years ago and seeing the fist cover of LOVE magazine. The issue was launching with the theme "Icons of a Generation." I stopped dead in my tracks. I had to know who that was and why she was naked. My sister Selina and I bought a copy to entertain us for the long train ride ahead and entertained we were. It was a fabulous issue filled with pop icons and stars all portrayed by stunning photography. But ever since then, Beth Ditto has been on my radar.

Ditto is the lead singer of the British band The Gossip, and if you don't know their stuff, listen to "Heavy Cross" below.

Beth Ditto is an incredible inspiration to many as she very obviously defies boundaries of what we consider beautiful, and she has a fabulously outrageous sense of style.

Cheers, Beth.

I want that lipstick.

Skateboard + Sunglasses

Portland-based company SHWOOD work and live by the line "Experiment with nature."
Their experiment?
Finding a way to engineer nifty sunglasses out of broken skate decks. (read: they take used skateboards and turn them into something you can see out of.)
The end result?
Sustainable, wooden, unique shades.
Pretty rad, huh?

after.

See how they're made:

Seeing + Stars

So usually people focus on what underneath her clothes, but this gold sequined Dolce & Gabbana dress Kim Kardashian wore for Harper's Bazaar Arabia is STUNNING. Yes, these photos are back from the beginning of August, but as I sat in an Internet cafe in Amsterdam and jubilantly opened the email from my sister Lorelei about the shoot, I knew I would have to do a post on it.  Now, the gold sequin dress I ADORE but I'm still rather iffy on the whole D&G star phase going on. I mean, yes its bold and bright, but it just seems a bit too, well, simple. Call me old-fashioned but its just too graphic and readily available for cheap copy-cats.
Kim wore the star print in yellow, and Britney Spears was featured in Harper's Bazaar in the black version.  All dresses are from Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2011 Ready To Wear Collection.
What do you think of them?

Brittany is the star-studded attire.

glitzy and glamorous

another wonderful dress.

The + Protector

The first thing I'm buying when I get my first real-person paycheck? This leotard by We Are Handsome. I am literally ob.sessed.  It's  called "The Protector".
I was reading a magazine on a beach in Ibiza and had a mini heart attack when I saw it being featured. It was love at first sight, and I have literally been thinking about it ever since. Well, technically its a swimsuit, but I would TOTALLY rock it with some black jeans and call it a day. Their prints are just so crisp and eye-catching. The pants are pretty hot too, but I prefer the one piece.  We Are Handsome is a small company based out of Australia, but their pieces have been seen on the likes of Rihanna, who had her Bob Marley version personally made.
Are you drooling yet?

so fierce.

LOVE the balloons.
