Turning + Tables

The first thing on my back-to-school wishlist? An old-school turntable.

I've always admired the old, obsolete record covers found in thrift stores at next to nothing prices. Those mixed in with a few new releases here and there would make for an ideal collection, don't you think? You just can't beat the sound quality and tactile experience.

Slap on an old Sinatra record and bam you've got yourself the ultimate glass-of-wine-in-hand-kind-of-night soundtrack.

Below are the first 5 albums I would want to buy, all available at urban.

The Jensen Wood Turntable, $88

Fleetwood Mac, Rumours LP, $28.98

Florence & The Machine, Ceremonials LP, $20.98

Lana Del Rey, Born To Die LP, $22.98

The XX, XX LP $18.98

The National, High Violet LP, $26.98

It's tough when you already own these albums in MP3 though...
But the albums would double as wall art. Voila! It can be vaguely economic. so THERE.

Sleep + Tight

Like sleeping in small enclosed spaces? Same.
How crazy is the one below? Radical.

Spotted at Shelterness.

Sew + Hot

Meet the next generation of bobby pin: Hair Thread.
Australian hair guru Kevin Murphy has come out with a line of hair thread- instead of fussing with clips and pins, you simply thread your hair into the desired look. At the end of the night, snip and pull out the thread to undo.
I'm intrigued.

Also check out his line for temporary hair color: Color Bug.

Cut + Out

This dress by French label Carven is adorable. I love me some good upper ribcage display.
And that textile. mmm.

As seen on The Man Repeller.

EAT + LEARN + MOVE

Need some inspiration to get off your butt this summer? These should just about do it (if you havn't already seen them):

3 GUYS, 44 DAYS, 11 COUNTRIES, 18 FLIGHTS, 38 THOUSAND MILES,
 AN EXPLODING VOLCANO,
2 CAMERAS AND ALMOST A TERABYTE OF FOOTAGE…
ALL TO TURN 3 AMBITIOUS LINEAR CONCEPTS BASED ON
MOVEMENT, LEARNING AND FOOD ….
INTO 3 BEAUTIFUL AND HOPEFULLY COMPELLING SHORT FILMS…..
= A TRIP OF A LIFETIME.

Three short films by Rick Mereki, Tim White and Andrew Lees.
Also hi Rick Mereki, please marry me. kthanxbai.

It's kind of like Eat Pray Love but a lot less whinny and self-sympathizing.

Spotted at Cup of Jo.

Rap + Explained

"Stu Jeffries, with the help of some talented kids, shows everyone what 'rap' is."
(circa 1987)

Ah, Canadians.

My friend Emma just got bangs!!! And she looks SUPERB.

Thinking of taking that dive but need the extra push? (I know I did...)
Check out these bangin' beauties and the styles they rock:

(P.S. check out The Beauty Department's guide to styling your bangs.)

Alexa Chung: The Chic Middle Part

Gemma Arterton: The Retro Curl

Zooey Deschanel: The Quirky Classic

Keira Knightley: The Whispy Romantic

Audrey Hepburn: The Mid Bang
(ehh)

Rihanna: The Badass Side Sweep

Katy Perry: The Anything Goes Because Hey Why Not

Bridget Bardot: The Sexy Schoolgirl

She needs no qualifiers.

Remember, you can always grow them out. And worse case scenario: pin it.

Lennon + Maisy

This cover of Robyn/Erato's "Call Your Girlfriend"is not only precious but also superb.

Spotted by Selina.

Thu + Thu

Currently lusting after the label THU THU by designer Thuy Duong Nyguyen. Vietnamese-born, she has since moved to Germany and influences from both places can be strongly noted in her work. Apparently I have a weakness for handcrafted embroideries (see Free People Parka).

This jacket is to DIE for.

Travel + Sheik

I have some wonderful summer plans ahead of me! The first part of my summer will be spent in Great Britain- visiting relatives in England and then backpacking around Scotland, Ireland and Wales!  I'll be with my sister Lorelei and my good friend Jacob will be joining us before he heads to Coppenhagen for the summer and we head over to Singapore to see our beloved sister Selina and a bit of South East Asia!

Considering I leave in two days- I should probably start packing. WHAT TO PACK. The goal: attempt to be as chic as the lovely ladies below as I tramp across the green hills of the north and the fields of the south. And if you are doing any traveling yourself, take some notes.

Wish me luck.

Colder weather:
Hiking in heels is reasonable, right?

Warmer weather:

GREAT backpack.
